I have stayed before in pods and usually they get super hot. Those pods though did not- you have a fan and a lamp, and did not feel like I am getting super hot. It is a first. You also get a curtain so it is very cosy and you do feel like you have your private space in there despite being in a 4 dorm room. I know someone complained from the noise. I am a light sleeper and I slept like a baby in those. I later moved to a single room where I had more noise than this room. Mind you, I was further away from the stairs so this may have helped too. The stairs to get on the top bunk are solid good👌 We got a sink in the room too. In the common area, you have water stations and an all day coffee station. They also offer almond milk, paper plates, disposable cutlery and a microwave. Trader Joe and Whole foods are less than 10 mins away walking so you can get some food like salads, or ready made meals to eat. We had a fridge in our room, which actually did not work and some of my food went off (note- staff did not know there was a problem before I told them and they said it will get fixed). The rooms and bathrooms get cleaned daily. You get toiletries and towel given so all good. ***Location wise***- It is ok even at night. There are few homeless, but you are not in the center of it like some other places in SF so you can feel safe.

This is a hotel with a unique theme that you won't find any place else! It's a fun place to simply walk up & down the halls which have lots of great photos, interesting information, and related quotes adorning the walls. The carpet is unique and the wall & door colors complete & compliment the hotel theme wonderfully. We were in a shared room for 6 people where we could meet our roommates, while the capsule sleeping pods provide a lovely level of privacy that we really enjoyed! The location is ideal, too! We were attending an event at a larger chain hotel, which was only a 6 minute walk away. There are so many coffee shops and restaurants of all "ethnicities" within a 3 block radius, plus a Trader Joe's, and a Whole Foods, and several smaller local grocery stores nearby, that aquiring food & beverages was easy. Plus - Music City Hotel has a nice fruit basket and coffee & teas set out at all times! We needed late check-in which was easily arranged, and also found the folks in the office to be kind, considerate, & helpful! As far as value: Music City Hotel cost us less than 1/2 of what we would have spent for a room at the hotel where our event was held. And - we could get there in about equal time as it took our friends to get to their rooms upstairs in the event hotel.

I have stayed here on a few occasions because I am a travel nurse and was able to just walk to Sutter Van Ness hospital. I was there when they were doing the construction for the now finished restaurant and the noise wasn’t too bad (I work night shift). Even during the day I was able to sleep. I have stayed in the pod rooms and also the single private rooms. My favorite room is definitely The Janis room. The people I shared rooms with were always nice. The staff has always been friendly and would remember me when I checked in and out. All the shared rooms I have stayed in have a locker and refrigerator/microwave which is convenient. Housekeeping was always around keeping the place clean and would give you a towel if you asked. The beds in all the rooms I stayed in were comfortable. Loved all the music memorabilia on the walls. Also liked to listen to the bands practicing. The new restaurant has great food and drinks at a decent price for San Francisco. Loved that I got to see bands playing for free since I was a guest there. I always try to stay here if I’m in town. Union square is a short walk or you can take public transportation which is so nice to just have down the street. Nice way to save money to enjoy the city.

- Impressively clean, especially bathrooms - Privacy of bathrooms - they were individual, and were on a corridor rather than attached to the dorm rooms - The privacy offered by the "pods" as well as their relative spaciousness. I don't like the thought of strangers being able to see me when I'm asleep so this was perfect for me - Fridge, sink and desk in dorm were really handy. I had a four-bed room which was cosy but not cramped. My room mates were nice and respectful - The area was fine as long as you didn't go south into the Tenderloin (which is awful in terms of the number of homeless/addicts/mentally ill, I strongly suggest you avoid it, as well as the Civic Centre). I just walked north up to Nob Hill, into China Town and North Beach etc and had a great day exploring

The room&bed was super comfortable and well equipped. Kinda like a capsule hotel in Japan. Restrooms are enough because there are both private & public ones. The common area is a little bit small but with sofa and tea coffee. The location is good for the daytime especially if you take the cable bus. The hostel is part of the building which is also part of the music studio, you can hang around the building and listen to the songs through QR codes on the wall beside the historical band pictures.
